Cole County Emergency Medical Services offers continuing education courses (CEUs) for both internal and external EMS professionals. Requests to attend a training course must be submitted online by clicking on the course you wish to attend in the schedule below and completing the registration process.  Our training scheduled is located after the course descriptions below.  If your agency needs an onsite course conducted or our current training schedule does not fit your needs, contact our training division for details.

Note: Internal providers can attend any course free of charge. External providers who are located within Cole County and assist CCEMS on any EMS calls when requested are able to attend the course free of charge, but any certification cards, textbooks, manuals, etc. must be paid for by the external agency or the participant directly. Failure to pay for the nominal charge will result in the provider and/or external agency from being excluded from future training free of charge.

All participants MUST register for the course online through the calendar below. Failure to register can result in being denied entry and/or participation in the course.

AHA Healthcare Provider CPR
This classroom, Instructor-led course teaches both single-rescuer and team basic life support skills for application in both prehospital and in-facility environments, with a focus on High-Quality CPR and team dynamics.
Cost: $50*

Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
This classroom, Instructor-led course highlights the importance of high-performance team dynamics and communication, systems of care, recognition and intervention of cardiopulmonary arrest, immediate post-cardiac arrest, acute dysrhythmia, stroke, and acute coronary syndromes (ACS).

Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
This classroom, Instructor-led course uses a series of videos and simulated pediatric emergencies to reinforce the important concepts of a systematic approach to pediatric assessment, basic life support, PALS treatment algorithms, effective resuscitation, and team dynamics.
Cost: Initial 2-Day Course: $220*            Cost: Refresher Course: $150*

Prehospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS)
This classroom, Instructor-led course improves the quality of trauma care and decrease mortality. The program is based on a philosophy stressing the treatment of the multi-system trauma patient as a unique entity with specific needs. PHTLS promotes critical thinking as the foundation for providing quality care.

Advanced Medical Life Support (AMLS)
This classroom, Instructor-led course emphasizes the use of scene size-up, history, interactive group discussion on potential treatment strategies, and physical exam to systematically rule out and consider possibilities and probabilities in treating patients’ medical crises.

Geriatric Education for EMS (GEMS)
This classroom, instructor-led course provides EMS practitioners at all levels with the skills and knowledge to address the unique medical, social, environmental and communications challenges of older adults. Developed by NAEMT, in partnership with the American Geriatrics Society, GEMS empowers EMS practitioners to help improve medical outcomes and quality of life for geriatric patients.

Handtevy Pediatric Provider
This classroom, instructor-led course will leave you confident that you’ll be able to provide the highest quality of care to every child on scene. It’s not just about the medicine, but how to effectively work with your crew while overcoming the emotional hurdles associated with pre-hospital pediatric care.
Cost: $220*

EMS Vehicle Operator Safety (EVOS)
This classroom, instructor-led course draws on the most current research about the behaviors and other hazards that lead to crashes, EVOS features case studies and analyses of both common and catastrophic collisions. EVOS challenges EMS practitioners to reconsider their preconceptions about safe vehicle operations.
Cost: $75*

Pediatric Emergency Assessment Recognition (PEARS)
This classroom-based, Instructor-led course, students learn how to use a systematic approach to quickly assess, recognize the cause, and stabilize a pediatric patient in an emergency situation.
Cost: $150*

*cost of course does not include cost of student manual.  If the student would like to keep their manual, the cost of the manual will be added to the overall charge of the course.
