Adult Brain Injury Program
The Adult Brain Injury (ABI) program is a state wide program that provides assistance to Missouri residents, ages 21-65 who have sustained a traumatic brain injury (TBI). This service is made available through a contract between the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services (DHSS), Bureau of Special Health Care Needs and the Cole County Health Department (CCHD) to serve nine (9) counties in central Missouri. Through service coordination, the program links individuals to resources to enable each person obtain goals of independent living, community participation and employment. Individuals who meet financial eligibility requirements may also receive community- based rehabilitation services to help achieve identified goals.

- Howard
- Moniteau
- Montgomery
- Morgan
- Osage
Program Eligibility Requirements
- Be a Missouri resident
- Be between 21 and 65 years of age
- Meet medical eligibility guidelines (TBI)
- Meet financial eligibility guidelines for rehabilitation services paid for by DHSS
Service Coordination
Service Coordination includes and evaluation and assessment of needs; development and regular evaluation and updates of a service plan and assistance in locating resources.
Rehabilitation
Rehabilitation services are available to individuals who are eligible for the service and whose income is at or below 185% of Federal Poverty Guidelines. Rehabilitation services may be provided when necessary to facilitate the participant’s achievement of a long-term goal as indicated in the service plan. The provision of rehabilitation services is subject to the availability of funds which are appropriated annually. All rehabilitation services are required to be pre-authorized. The Department of Health and Senior Services is a payer of last resort.
The Following Rehabilitation Services are Funded by the Adult Head Injury Program:
- Adjustment Counseling - Up to 26 sessions in lifetime
- Neuropsychological Evaluation and Consultation one (1) time
- Pre-Vocational/Pre-Employment Training - Up to 45 hours in lifetime
- Transitional Home and Community Support - Up to 1,000 hours in lifetime
- Supported Employment/Follow Along
- Special Instruction
